KB Bender
MOT, OTR/L, CAPS
Massachusetts OT license #13738
My Name is KB. I am a registered and licensed occupational therapist (OT) and certified aging in place specialist (CAPS), living and working in beautiful Western Massachusetts. I completed my Master’s of Occupational Therapy at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, with a focus on community-based OT intervention and non-traditional practice settings. During my studies I most enjoyed working with the public transit system to improve access to safe public transportation and para-transit services, as well as working with the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to create and sustain programming for children and families who were houseless and living in shelter.
Over the years I have worked in a variety of practice settings to further develop my clinical skills, including acute care, long-term acute care, skilled nursing facilities, inpatient rehabilitation, and home health. Working in people’s homes has been the most gratifying, offering me insight into what “home'“ means for so many different people. Working in peoples authentic and comfortable spaces creates ample opportunity for collaboration and to build skills to empower folks to confidently and safely remain where they want to be.
I earned the designation of Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist from the National Association of Home Builders to further my understanding of how to best support my home health clients in making the right choices in modifying and remodeling their homes to support their therapeutic goals.
I created Dwellbeing OT to offer these services to my community, because I believe everyone deserves a full and colorful life, on their own terms, no matter their circumstances.
My practice and therapeutic approach is client and family centered, rooted in occupational justice principles and open to growth and change.
Thanks for reading, ask me anything.
When I’m not doing all this OT stuff you can find me hiking with my dog, making pottery, cooking a meal from my CSA, and/or spending time with the people I care about. I also work at a brewery because, hey, variety is the spice of life! My belief that one person can never have too many hobbies sometimes gets me into trouble.
